Presented by the Governor of Victoria, The Hon. Linda Dessau AM, the 2015 Premier’s Design Award of the Year, the highest design honour in Victoria was jointly awarded to a groundbreaking high-end broadcast camera designed by Blackmagic Design and an innovative food distribution truck designed by CobaltNiche Design and VMS Group for the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre.
Minister for Creative Industries, Martin Foley MP said "The Awards honour and celebrate the products, processes and projects from the past year that have used design thinking to reshape the way we live, the way we interact, do business and see the world."
“Congratulations to this year’s winners and finalists, who demonstrate the incredible diversity of Victoria’s design sector – a key part of the state’s $23 billion creative economy playing a significant role in shaping the jobs and industries of the future,” Minister Foley went on to say.
2015 Joint Winner: Blackmagic Studio Camera
The Blackmagic Studio Camera, the joint overall winner is the world’s smallest broadcast camera with the world’s largest viewfinder, designed specifically for multi-camera live productions including talk shows, news and sporting events. At under $2000, it is a powerful yet accessible tool with all the functionality of a high-end broadcast camera for one-tenth of the price.

The top Award was shared with The Food Justice Truck, an innovative grocery service that has been designed to offer a healthy and ethical shopping experience for day-to-day consumers and offers a life changing experience to those in the community who need it most. The system has been designed to offer a 75% discount on food purchases to people seeking asylum in Australia.
Best in Category winners were also presented across six main design categories including: Product Design, Architectural Design, Service Design, Digital Design, Design Strategy and Communication Design.
Judged by a panel of leading design experts from Australia and overseas, the overall winners represented the best of design, creativity and innovation in Victoria.
Dr. Brandon Gien, CEO of Good Design Australia, who manage the Premier’s Design Awards on behalf of the Victorian Government said that this year’s calibre of entries showcased the very best of Victoria’s design capability. “Each year the standard of design in this state just gets higher and higher. It is incredible to see the quality of design and creativity being generated in Victoria, ” he said. These Awards are an important vehicle to raise the importance of design and the role that design plays in driving innovation and prosperity in Victoria and Australia as a country,” Dr. Gien commented.
